A Private Student Progress Tracker — Not a Gradebook

Somewhere between a formal gradebook and pure gut feeling, there's a real signal: how a student — or a whole class — is actually moving over time. Most teachers carry that in their head. Here's a structure for writing it down instead, privately.

What this actually is

Not a gradebook, and not a replacement for your school's official system — a private read on movement. You tap where a student sits on a topic or paper whenever you notice, dated. Over a few weeks, those taps become a pattern: is this student climbing, stalled, or dipping — and when.

Why it has to stay private

The honesty of a tool like this depends entirely on nobody else seeing it. A private, informal read lets you notice a slip before it's a problem — a shared or official one invites you to hedge, soften, or stop writing things down altogether. It never replaces your school's official gradebook or reporting system; it just gives you a place to think before you have to formalise anything.

Fresh Start Planner builds this exact structure — private movement tracking by student and by class — alongside your scheme of work, IA tracking, and everything else, across DP, MYP, Cambridge, Edexcel and AP.
